Garage floors have come a long way since the old days when concrete provided a revolutionary improvement over dirt or bricks. Today, with many homeowners thinking of their garages as another room of the house, bland, dirty concrete flooring that is subject to cracking and chipping is simply not an option. That’s especially true in Northeast Ohio, where winters—and road salt—are brutal on a garage floor.
As you think about flooring options for your new garage, or fixing a worn concrete floor, two of the most popular choices are epoxy flooring or tiles, which are generally made of rubber, PVC, porcelain or ceramic. As you ponder ...
Porcelain and ceramic tile are timeless hard surface options for any home. They'll never go out of style, they're easy to clean, and they're hard to stain. But, if you live in Northeast Ohio, winter rolls in and the sting of cold floors on bare feet makes you question your design decisions.
The Ditra-heat heated flooring system by Shluter, currently offered by Guhde Flooring America, is a comprehensive floor heating system. Guhde doesn't just sell the Ditra-heat system, they install it as well, complete with a programmable thermostat. For anyone that's attempted installing their own tile at the DIY level, that installation expertise is important.

During the summer months, dirt, debris and fluid spills from your vehicle can cause your garage floor to look unsightly. But during the fall and winter months, the added problem of water, snow and ice can make it unsafe.
One solution to combating all of the problems above is to install containment mat. When you park your car on the mat, any melted snow and ice will drip onto its surface. Dirt and debris will collect there as well. You can clean the mat when it becomes too dirty, or hang it out to dry when it’s too wet.
The downside to a containment mat is that it only covers a small portion of the garage floor and requires the user to be physical ...

The garage is the room in your home most likely to need some TLC. When compared to a complete kitchen or bath remodel, the changes are more straightforward and more economical, but it still pays to choose a professional contractor. This is because professionals have access to tools and materials that simply aren't available to consumers at big-box stores.
Diamond-coated grinders and polyaspartic polyurea coatings are prohibitively expensive or simply unavailable to homeowners for a one-off project. Even if they were available, there'd still be a professional touch missing. When it comes to garage flooring for instance, it's all in the preparation. Getting the new flooring to "stick" to the ...
Gutters perform an important function for your home by protecting your foundation from the harmful effects of pooling water. Without gutters, moisture would collect around your home after every rainfall. Over time, consistent moisture can cause bowing, cracks, and eventually complete failure of the foundation.
Gutters only work if they can keep up with the precipitation that Mother Nature throws at them. If your home's gutters can't efficiently gather water and carry it away from your house, you'll run into leaking and craking basement walls. That means clogged gutters are about as effective as no gutters at all.
If you find that your home's gutters aren't performing, contact LeafFilter ...

Add garage door hinges to the list of unsung heroes of the home. The small metal diamonds on the inside of the door hold sections together and make the "magic" of the opener possible. Without working hinges, sections of the door can't fold and the door doesn't go up.
Fortunately, problems with garage door hinges are relatively easy to identify and remedy. Snapped or broken hinges should simply be replaced immediately.
Because garage doors are exposed to the elements and their daily use involves moving up and down, the bolts holding the hinge on the door tend to loosen over time.
Hinges also need lubrication to work properly, otherwise the whole door can c ...
